We recently caught up with Flourish Fostering founder Dr Mica Douglas during our 5th Year Celebrations to hear about the Flourish journey so far. Here is what she had to say:

Creating a new fostering organisation during the height of the Coronavirus pandemic wasn’t ideal. We had to contend with uncertainty and disruption, alongside the regular complexities of creating a new therapeutic organisation. But it tested our ability to adapt and overcome early on and reinforced why we were doing this in the first place.

We had a clear vision from the start: to create a therapeutic fostering organisation that would set a gold standard for others. It was ambitious, but something we believed in deeply. We had the people, the mindset, and a supportive board that shared our values and long-term focus; all the ingredients we needed to achieve.

At the heart of Flourish are our fabulous, fully committed foster parents, supported by a dedicated and enthusiastic team of administrators and participation staff, alongside a team of skilled therapists. These people work closely with our supervising social workers to provide consistent, high-quality support to our families, day and night.

We’re so proud of the way the vision has taken shape in our first five years. Our training programme has helped foster parents’ confidence grow while earning qualifications that strengthen them as both foster parents and people. The feedback from children and families continues to tell us what matters most: that Flourish feels like home.

Our fifth anniversary as an organisation provides a moment to take stock and appreciate what we’ve achieved so far. But it’s also a time to look ahead. We’re building on strong foundations and an outstanding legacy. We’re focused on continuing to grow with care and quality at the core of everything we do.
